Major events specialist · Preston, Lancashire

Strategy is only useful if it survives contact with reality.

I bring strategic intent, tactical decision-making and operational delivery together — across protective security, event control, readiness, resilience and safety.

About

I work where the plan becomes a live operation.

I’m Dave Sammons MSc, a major-events specialist with a background spanning military policing, frontline emergency services and senior event operations. My work sits at the point where strategy has to become something practical, proportionate and deliverable.

I’m regularly brought into complex environments to lead control rooms, provide tactical / Silver-level leadership, assess protective-security arrangements, strengthen readiness, and help organisers turn good intentions into systems that work on the ground.

I’m comfortable challenging assumptions. Not for the sake of it — but because the public, staff and organisations relying on the plan deserve something that works at 8pm on show day, not just something that reads well at 10am in a meeting room.

How I work

The three lenses.

Good decisions have to work in the real world, stand up organisationally and remain grounded in the people affected by them.

01

Operationally realistic

Can people actually do it, with the time, space, information and resources they will have on the day?

02

Organisationally accountable

Are authority, governance, escalation and rationale clear enough to support confident, defensible decisions?

03

Humanly considered

Does the plan recognise how people behave under pressure — staff, partners, audiences and those who may need additional support?

“The gap between strategy and delivery is where most problems live. That’s the space I work in.”
